FOSTER carers in Inverell and Glen Innes were recognised for their incredible work by the NSW Department of Community Services during Foster Care Week.
DoCS Northern Region Acting Regional Director Morag MacSween said Foster Care Week gave them a chance to acknowledge the great work foster carers do - not only for the children they care for but also for the entire community.
“Often the efforts of carers go unnoticed – they provide love and support to children who need someone to care for them,” Ms MacSween said.
As part of the Foster Care Week celebrations last month, DoCS hosted a number of events for carers and their families.
“More than 50 carers and their families from Inverell attended a family fun day at Green Valley Farm where the kids enjoyed the amusements on offer and everyone was treated to a barbecue lunch,” Ms MacSween said.
DoCS also held special recuitment events during Foster Care Week.
“We are always looking for new foster carers and we held morning teas at Inverell and Tenterfield where carers were asked to bring a friend who may also be interested in fostering,” she said.
“The morning teas gave us a chance to explain what’s involved in caring for vulnerable kids and to introduce people to the local fostering community.”
