The Stawell Men's Shed has officially opened its doors.
The new initiative, aimed at promoting health and wellbeing for retired and older men in the community, will now be open between 9am and 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, except on public holidays.
Northern Grampians Shire Mayor Cr Bryan Small was on hand to open the new Men's Shed, which will be an environment for like minded men to share and develop skills, build projects, talk, relax and socialise.
Co-founder of the Men's Shed Terry Dunn emphasised that attending was not a costly exercise.
``It is inexpensive to come here and basically your building materials are covered,'' Mr Dunn said.
``There are no age barriers, it is open to everyone even if they are not retired and you are a shift worker you are more than welcome to come join in.
Mr Dunn said there was a variety of different payment methods that were available for interested participants.
A $5 per week or part week, a $50 per year plus $3.50 per week or part thereof or a $200 once off fee, which covers all daily attendance fees, are the three payment options available to potential members of the club. All payments are non prorata and non refundable.
Mr Dunn said a number of different organisations would benefit from the Men's Shed with males from Eventide Homes and Stawell Intertwine Services expected to regularly attend.
Fellow co-founder Brian Winters wished to thanks the many people who helped with the establishment of the project.
``We have had so many gifts and donations so I would like to thanks them,'' he said.
``Noel Raeburn has given his time and he has been fantastic. He cut all the framework and supervised all of us putting it together.''
The Stawell Men's Shed is located in Shed 8, 11 Smith Street. It is at the rear of Dunn's Furniture opposite Blachford Cabinets.
