ABOUT 150 historic military vehicles will be on display at Corowa this week.
Tracked armoured vehicles will be the feature item at this year’s Corowa Swim-In, now in its 29th year.
The vehicles are used for both static display and driving exercises throughout the week.
Enthusiast Darrin Wright said the event had grown bigger each year, with people travelling from as far as Melbourne and Sydney.
“Over the past eight to 10 years it has really started to take-off,” he said.
“It’s the largest military vehicle rally in Australia, and possibly the Southern Hemisphere.
“It involves quite a few people from right over the country coming along with their vehicles, and there are also enthusiasts and other people interested in military who turn up just to have a look — it’s a very social event.”
Most models on show are dated from World War II to today, with some vehicles from World War I.
A World War I Ford model T, remodelled as a machine gun carrier, was one of the oldest vehicles last year.
About five vehicles from the Bandiana Army Museum, including a M113 medium reconnaissance vehicle, will feature.
The main event is held from 9am on Saturday, when the vehicle parade leaves Ball Park Caravan Park for the airport.
The event got its title because vehicles swim-in to Corowa’s Murray River bank.
