Murder weapon still mystery

06 Nov, 2009 08:07 AM
POLICE have still not identified the weapon used in a fatal stabbing at Cobram on Melbourne Cup Day.

Emergency workers found a 36-year-old man dead in the home he shared with a fellow abattoir worker about 8pm after responding to a triple-0 call for assistance.

Police and SES searched the Warkil Street home on Wednesday and seized a number of pieces of evidence.

But yesterday, Detective Sen-Sgt David Snare, of Victoria Police, said that

investigators were not yet sure what

had been used to inflict the stab wounds.

“We seized a number of items but whether they’re exactly the ones we’re looking for or not, we can’t know until later on when testing is done,” he said.

“If the public finds anything in the street, we’d still be interested in anything that they locate.”

Sen-Sgt Snare said it appeared the man — known to locals only as Murray or the nickname “Muzza” — had been involved in an argument with his flatmate and co-worker, Robert Boshevski before he died.

Boshevski, 54, has been charged with Murray’s murder and remanded in custody until February.

The Border Mail understands the men had shared the weatherboard home for about six months.

Boshevski had been drinking at The Grand Central Hotel the day of the

alleged murder but police are still

trying determine his flatmate’s movements.

“Again, neighbours, if they heard or saw anything, then certainly give us a yell,” Sen-Sgt Snare said.

“I know that it’s been reported that there were arguments in the street so if we had any of that information that’d be fantastic.”

The body was taken to Melbourne for a post-mortem on Wednesday but Detective Sen-Sgt Snare said the results would not be made public.

The policeman also declined to confirm the number of wounds on the body or where they had been inflicted.

The forensic specialists and homicide detectives who travelled to Cobram from Melbourne early on Wednesday were set to return to home late yesterday.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
