DEMAND for doctors in the region has prompted one local medical group to significantly expand its practice.
A brand new Eaton Medical Centre being built on Albatross Crescent plans to open in January next year to replace the redundant centre on Glenhuon Boulevard.
Practice manager of the Australind and Eaton Medical Centres Heather McRobb said it was hoped the new Eaton centre would take on some of the overflow of patients from Bunbury.
The owners of the practice expect the new building to take on four times the work the current Eaton practice has.
There are only two doctors at the current Eaton centre, which will be expanded to eight when the new building opens.
The doctors will rotate between Australind and Eaton.
There will also be the addition of a practice nurse and more procedures will be able to be done on site.
In the past, removal of skin lesions, vasectomies and immunisations had to be done in Australind, but the expansion means there is enough room and facilities for them to be done in Eaton.
It is also hoped the centre will become a travel medicine clinic for those going overseas and need vaccines, a process for which people currently need to go to Perth.
Part owner and doctor of the Australind and Eaton Medical Centres Scott Macliver said the clinic will be a big asset to the Greater Bunbury region.
“Medical practices are very expensive to set up and a large practice like this will stand the community in good stead for many years,” Dr Macliver said.
