23 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
AN Indian national yesterday pleaded not guilty to murder over a death near Griffith in 2009.

Gurpreet Singh, 26, entered his plea in the Supreme Court at Albury before a jury of six men and six women. The trial is expected to take about five weeks.

Police allege Singh was involved in the murder of a fellow Indian national, Ranjodh Singh, 25, on December 29, 2009.

Mr Singh was stabbed in the back, had his throat cut twice, causing his death, and was then set on fire.

His burnt body was found near a road the next day.

The the incident happened about 25km south-east of Griffith.

Earlier this week, a woman pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the murder.

Harpreet Kaur Bhullar, 23, had sentencing submissions done on her behalf before Justice Ian Harrison.

Justice Harrison jailed her for two years and 24 days, backdated.

The jury is expected to hear the opening of the case against Singh this morning.
