Paraglider stuck for 6 hours

08 Feb, 2012 12:00 AM
A MELBOURNE paraglider has escaped unharmed after being stuck in a tree near Bright for more than six hours yesterday afternoon.

A police search and rescue team was flown into the isolated ridge after 5pm where the St Kilda man, 64, had become stuck at the top of a 20-metre tree.

Victorian police said it was yet to be determined how the man and his craft became stuck but he had got into trouble after taking off from Mystic Hill about 12.30pm yesterday.

It is understood the man used a mobile phone or radio to alert emergency officials to his plight.

Police said the tree was a fair distance away from a four-wheel-drive track and required rescuers to walk in after they were flown to the ridge line.

Search and rescue police had to climb the tree and lower the man to the ground about 8pm using a basket to winch him to safety.

The man was seen by paramedics but was uninjured.
