ABC NewsRadio airs continuous news and current affairs at 100.9FM from a mast on Mount Baranduda, near Wodonga.
To help provide space on the airwaves, low-powered Wodonga-based Christian radio station The Light was required to switch from 100.7FM to 98.5FM 12 months ago.
The Upper Murray is one of the last regions to receive ABC NewsRadio in a five-year regional roll-out.
ABC NewsRadio broadcasts rolling news, sport, finance and current affairs, specialist news and sports programs and offerings from overseas broadcasters such as the BBC, Germany’s Deutsche Welle and National Public Radio in the US.
It presenters include breakfast host Glen Bartholomew, Walkley Award-winning national political editor Marius Benson and the pioneering sports host Debbie Spillane who created history in 1984 as the ABC’s first full-time female sports broadcaster.
The station will also give Border listeners access to live sessions from the House of Representatives and the Senate in Canberra when Parliament resumes next year.
