And at least one other Ovens and Murray club hopes to do the same.
Myrtleford is the first club to confirm it has struck a deal with Fevola’s management to have the former Carlton and Brisbane Lions star play for the Pigeons against it at McNamara Reserve in round 4.
Myrtleford would not reveal details yesterday but Fevola is understood to be earning $5000 a game for Yarrawonga — a figure the Saints had to match to pull off the deal.
Fevola was expected to play just the Pigeons’ nine home games, plus any finals, but president Glenn Brear has since said he expected that number to increase.
“He will play quite a sufficient number of games during the home-and-away season, without putting a number on it,” Brear said yesterday.
“If we play finals, he will play the finals we will participate in.
“The Myrtleford Football-Netball Club chased us to see if it was a
possibility and we contacted Brendan’s manager and arranged it from there.
“It’s happening with our blessing,” he said.
The Saints have confirmed a club sponsor will pay Fevola and say a crowd of about 5000 is realistic for the April 28 clash.
In a marketing masterstroke by the Saints, the Myrtleford-Yarra-
wonga game is the only O?and?M match on that weekend.
The four other games will be played the following week.
Myrtleford president Bill O’Donohue yesterday said his club had approached Yarrawonga with the proposal and the rivals had come to an agreement late last week.
“I asked Glenn what were the chances of Fev coming and he said: ‘Leave it with me and I’ll get back to you’, and he did,” O’Donohue said.
“Fevola could have said no but he jumped at it.
