Community Alliance Party candidate for Brindabella Val Jeffery has lashed out at the ''scumbags'' who ''stole'' about 100 of his roadside campaign posters, costing him more than $3000.
He also suggested the prospect of a Labor/Greens coalition government in the ACT would be ''absolutely frightening''.
Mr Jeffery said the posters were put up late last week and, within hours, were stolen from along roads including Tharwa Drive and Athllon Drive. He blames his political opponents.
''It is a sad reflection that this electoral campaign has fallen to such low depths that the major parties must feel so threatened by images of my weather-beaten face that they would stoop so low,'' he said.
Mr Jeffery said the posters adhered to the Department of Territory and Municipal Services' code of practice for movable signs.
''Our wonderful democratic electoral system is proudly based on our valuable electoral freedoms and our society has the hard-fought right to express their rights at the ballot box.
''I hope that these scumbags are proud of their blatant un-Australian attack on our democracy.''
Reacting to last week's Patterson-Canberra Times poll which showed the Greens would win four seats and hold the balance of power after the October 18 election, Mr Jeffery said the possibility of a Labor-Greens coalition government would be a ''wake-up call'' to many voters.
''A Stanhope minority depending on fanatical whims of an out-of-touch ideology driven by an unrealistic, so-called green agenda would grind Canberra to a halt.''
