30 Jul, 2010 01:49 PM
A SECULAR Party candidate has topped the voting paper for the seat of Farrer at this afternoon's ballot draw.

Mathew Crothers drew top position at the draw held at the Australian Electoral Commission office in Albury.

The Secular Party believes in separating politics from religion.

Christian Democrats hopeful James Male drew last place following the nomination of eight candidates for the electorate which stretches from Broken Hill to Albury.

Incumbent Liberal member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, drew fourth place, while Labor's Christian Emmery was fifth.

Meanwhile, in Indi, independent Boorhaman farmer Alan Lappin will head the ballot paper.

The 58-year-old won the top spot on the ticket at the Australian Electroal Commission draw in Wangaratta at noon.

Six candidates will contest the seat in the federal poll on August 21.

Sitting Liberal member Sophie Mirabella drew position number five, second from the bottom, on the ballot paper.

Family First's Robert Cavedon was the final name drawn.
