September rain a boost, but year still well below average

7/10/2008 8:18:00 AM
RAINFALL across the Glen Innes district so far in 2008 may still be substantially less than normal, but the September rainfall has totalled above the monthly average thanks to heavy downpours on a number of days.

A total of 61.6mm fell throughout September, to be 6mm above the average. While rain was recorded on eight days it was three days in particular that boosted the final figures. Falls of 14.2mm (September 1), 15.8mm (September 6) and 12.0mm (September 15) were the main contributions towards the total.

At the end of September the rainfall figure for the year so far stood at 365.2mm and is more than 200mm less than the average up to September.

Temperatures remained relatively usual with the minimum being -1.8 on the 10th and the maximum 26.2 on the 22nd. Rainfall across the district yesterday was welcomed by graziers.
