SHOCKING has produced one of the great sustained runs in Melbourne Cup history to win the 2009 race at Flemington today.
The Mark Kavanagh-trained gelding fought off Crime Scene down the straight, with Mourilyan home for third.
Race favourite Alcopop loomed around the straight but faded over the final 200m to finish sixth.
The Bart Cummings-trained Viewed finished midfield and never really threatened.
