A UNIVERSITY student whose scooter was torched by vandals thought there were “no good people left in the world” until a brand new machine turned up on her front doorstep.

Albury teenager Thea Jones, 18, yesterday laughed with delight after a representative from Melbourne’s Select Scoota company delivered a new SYM Jolie.
Thea’s friend Nic Wilke, a moderator for an online group called Scooter Community, bought the scooter after collecting donations from enthusiasts across Australia and the world.
“I posted photos of Thea’s torched scooter and said I’d do free graphic work if someone donated a second-hand replacement but the campaign set fire quicker than the original scooter,” he said.
“We received more than $2000 of donations from Albury, Launceston, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and even Japan and Canada.”
Thea said the new toy was “shinier, flashier” and more exciting than the “vintage” bicycle she had been riding since her old scooter, Leo, was burned.
“After what happened to Leo I thought there was no good people left in the world but the fact people could be this nice is unbelievable,” she said.
