6/10/2008 1:15:00 PM
AN Ararat man, 18, was stabbed early Thursday morning.

Ararat Sergeant Mick Logan said a disagreement broke out in Benbow Street, Ararat, about 1am on Thursday resulting in serious injury.

He said the 18-year-old was stabbed with an unknown implement twice, in the mid torso and lower back.

"Police are investigating and confident of laying charges in the near future," Sergeant Logan said.

He said police anticipated they would lay charges of having intentionally caused serious injury.

He said 12 people were present at the incident. He said the offender and victim knew each other.

"There was a disagreement between parties, more people got involved and it got out of hand," Sergeant Logan said.

He said alcohol was involved.

Sergeant Logan said the victim was transferred to Ararat Hospital but he had since been released.

Business tour

MEMBER for Lowan Hugh Delahunty toured Nhill and Dimboola on Friday hearing far reaching concerns from small businesses and farmers about dry conditions.

Mr Delahunty said both Nhill and Dimboola crops were hanging in there, but required rain soon.

"There's been a bit of anxiety from shop keepers, they said things had slowed down in the last fortnight," he said.

"There's concern about climatic conditions and the lack of water for the Wimmera River."

Nixon in town

VICTORIA Police commissioner Christine Nixon visited Horsham on Thursday.

Police media confirmed she was in town for a regional management forum in the Grampians.

She took the opportunity of her visit to spend time with members at Horsham police station.
