The cargo train was due to cross the bypass at around 3pm but the train stopped just before the Albury station and refused to move.
As reported in The Border Mail earlier this month, train drivers are unhappy about the state of the newly laid line between Albury and Melbourne.
After a delay of 30 to 40 minutes, the train resumed its journey, crossing the bypass about 3.45pm.
