The Channel 10 celebrity was full of handy hints as she whipped up a feast of gozleme (Turkish pizza), sausage ragu and Country Women’s Association scones at Albury’s community oven as part of final activities for the Write Around the Murray festival.
“Some people can’t figure out the connection between books and cooking but recipe books and magazines are actually among the top-sellers for book sales, and we wanted to celebrate that,” Albury cultural development co-ordinator Narelle Vogel said.
A literary pub crawl and a dinner with Melbourne author Michael McGirr on Friday night also helped to wrap up the writing festival.
The final event was a lecture at Charles Sturt University by Susan Duncan, former editor of The Australian Women’s Weekly and New Idea and also author of the books Salvation Creek and The House At Salvation Creek.
Co-ordinator Robyne Young said the festival had been a big success with 1500 people attending public and schools programs over the five days.
“The festival program was designed to reach a broader cross-section of people and put out message that a writers festival is really for anyone who loves books, and that has been achieved,” she said.
