Weather station goes online

11 Mar, 2009 12:00 AM
A SOLAR-powered weather station has been installed at Burrumbuttock and all it needs now is a little rain.

School students will use the station but co-ordinator Darryl Jacob believes it will have a much wider use.

“It’s there for every farmer within cooee to use through the Wirraminna website,” Mr Jacob said yesterday.

The automatic weather station at the Wirraminna Environment Education Centre is part of a $28,000 renewable energy project for Wirraminna funded by the Federal Department of Environment and Water Resources.

Ten solar panels provide power for the building’s aquarium, lighting, cooling and technology.

ZEN Home Energy Systems yesterday visited Wirraminna as part of a tour to Greater Hume shire villages to promote the shire’s scheme encouraging residents to join in a community bulk purchase of renewable energy solutions.
