01 Aug, 2010 01:26 PM
THE weather bureau's morning warning for gale force winds and flash flooding has now been changed to Alpine areas tonight.

An intense low pressure system west of Tasmania is expected to cross Bass Strait tonight with strong to gale force southwesterly winds expected to affect parts of Victoria.

There is also likely to be localised heavy rainfall.

Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are forecast for the the Alpine Areas.

Locally heavy rainfall may also lead to flash flooding.
