Williams is home but still broke

12 Nov, 2009 12:00 AM
TRISTAN-Daniel Williams is back but still without a cent for those he owes.

The organiser of the failed Indie Music Festival has returned to the Border to find work.

But he said he had no money to give to ticket outlets or to repay a large sum he owes a Lavington motel owner.

For the past two months, Mr Williams had been living in Brisbane with family and had found a job to begin paying off the debt he estimates to be $60,000.

However, Mr Williams told The Border Mail yesterday he still had no money to start repayments.

Earlier reports that Mr Williams had sold his car to recover some debt proved false with Mr Williams saying he had found a buyer but had stumbled on legal problems because the vehicle belonged to his family and not him.

“I have come back to sort everything out, it’s hard to deal with everything up in Queensland,” he said yesterday.

Mr Williams said upon returning home he had received legal papers quoting figures higher than he had anticipated.

“I am back in town to give some accountability and assure people that I haven’t exactly been away on a joyful and blissful holiday away from Albury,” he said.

For the failed Indie Music Festival, Mr Williams owes ticket outlets, advertisers and several businesses $35,000.

He also owes the Siesta Resort $4500 for accommodation costs that have been earning interest.

The Siesta Resort’s Stephen Jones has been locked in a legal battle with Mr Williams since he gave the motel a dud cheque for 17 rooms booked early last year.

“I haven’t been able to do anything with Stephen Jones as yet but I am hoping, being back in town, that I will be able to strike payment agreements with everyone,” Mr Williams said.

“This is my home town and that is why I have come back.

“This is where I feel comfortable and I need people to understand and bide their time.”

Mr Williams hoped employers might give him a shot at working in their businesses.

“I didn’t earn much money in Brisbane but I hope to find something here,” he said.

Mr Williams said he had experience as a barista and also in retail but was willing to give anything a go.
