Workers fear for jobs as printer goes into administration

10 Mar, 2010 09:11 AM
THE future of 145 Border jobs have come under a cloud after Wodonga company, Paragon Printing, was placed into administration.

Sydney-based accountants Hall Chadwick have been appointed as administrators for the commercial printer in Maloney Drive, as well as the office supplies wholesaler, MMMM Office 69, at the same premises.

Yesterday, workers were told both businesses would continue to trade as normal.

But Leigh Diehm of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union said the appointment of an administrator had left the 145 employees of Paragon Printing, and 12 workers at MMMM Office 69, fearing for their jobs.

“The administrators have said that they haven’t come up here today to sack anyone or make anyone redundant,” Mr Diehm said.

“But at the same time as that being said, today’s one day and it doesn’t mean that tomorrow something might not happen.

“The administrator’s exact words were that I can’t guarantee that over the next five weeks there aren’t going to be terminations.”

A statement by Hall Chadwick yesterday said the objective of an administration was to either maximise the chances of the company continuing to exist or if that was not possible, wind up operations to provide a better return for creditors and members.

“Hall Chadwick partners Richard Albarran, Blair Pleash and David Ross are continuing to trade the businesses of the companies at this stage with a view to maximising the chances of the companies continuing in existence,” the statement reads.

Speaking after a meeting on-site yesterday, a Paragon Printing employee who did not wish to be named said he was concerned about his job and entitlements.

“At the moment, we’re all still taking it in and I think it’s very much a wait and see type of thing,” he said.

“People are prepared to keep working and hope that the administrators can perhaps find a way through for us.”

Hall Chadwick has been appointed as administrators of Paragon Printing Limited, M10 Group Pty Limited, RRR Don 6 Pty Limited (formerly RRD Pty Limited), KKKESEF Manger 88 Limited (formerly Kesef Management Limited and MBSA Limited), RRR Don 96 Pty Limited (formerly RR Donnelley Pty Limited), NXA Pty Limited and MMMM Office 69 Pty Limited (formerly Moore Office Pty Limited).

KKKESEF Manger 88 provides internal management support to Paragon Printing and MMMM Office 69.

The administrators said the other entities do not trade.

It is believed Amir Hyster is the company director of Paragon Printing, as well as Wodonga’s Moore Business Systems which has not been placed into administration.

More information about the companies is expected to be detailed at a meeting of creditors to be held in Albury next Tuesday.

Hall Chadwick said it would be assessing the financial affairs of the companies of the coming weeks and report to creditors on a detailed basis.

This report will also detail the administrator’s recommendation as to the future of the companies based on their investigations.

Creditors will decide what should happen to the companies at a second meeting at a later date.
