A YOUTH intends pleading guilty to two charges of dangerous driving causing death over an accident near Corowa last year.
A defended hearing involving the youth, 17, was listed for Albury Children’s Court yesterday.
He was facing nine charges including two counts of driving at a dangerous speed causing death and two counts of aggravated dangerous driving causing death.
But police prosecutor Sgt Gary Rowe told magistrate Tony Murray two new charges of dangerous driving had been laid against the youth and he would plead guilty.
Sgt Rowe withdrew the charges of aggravated dangerous driving causing death and driving at a dangerous speed causing death.
“The only issue at this stage is the speed,” Sgt Rowe said.
He said both the police and the youth’s legal representative had obtained reports from experts on the speed the vehicle was doing at the time of the accident near Hopefield.
Sgt Rowe said police needed to review the report prepared by the expert commissioned by the youth’s representatives.
Corowa teenagers Jamie Lewis and Craig Warren were killed in an accident on March 15 on the Hopefield Road about 15 kilometres from Corowa when a car rolled after the driver lost control.
Mr Murray adjourned the case until March 13-.
Sgt Rowe has indicated police want sentencing done in the District Court, but the youth’s representatives are seeking to have the matter finalised before a magistrate.
