Council adopts new indigenous policy

5/10/2008 11:53:00 PM
REDLAND City Council has entered a new era of partnership with the local indigenous community with the formal adoption of a new Indigenous Community Policy.

The policy provides a formal framework for partnership with core objectives about relationship, engagement, acknowledgement and respect.

It will ensure Council's community engagement, budgetary planning and corporate planning takes into account indigenous community values and Indigenous cultural, environmental, social, economic and governance goals.

The policy recognises the traditional owners of the land waters within the Redlands and the council's commitment to acknowledging, preserving and understanding Quandamooka indigenous culture and heritage.

Through the policy, the role of the Quandamooka Combined Aboriginal Organisations Forum will be developed as a partner for consultation, planning and resource management.
