Beer and horse racing — the perfect mix

TOP galloper Helideck won’t be racing at Albury today — but judging by his excitement at the sight of the beverages Ash Woodman was pouring, he might pop in for the German-flavoured festivities anyway.

Helideck and bar attendant Woodman were on hand at Albury racetrack yesterday as the Albury Race Club prepared for today’s Oktoberfest meeting.

With an Oktoberfest beer garden, live music, German dancers between races, food stalls and live coverage of all the action from Caulfield Guineas day, ARC chief John Miller said he was expecting a bumper turn-out.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a Saturday meeting and the weather is going to be sensational,” Miller said.

“So we’re expecting a healthy and spirited crowd.”

The Caulfield action will begin at noon while the local five-race card will begin at 1.42pm.

ARC members will be able to purchase half-price schooners between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
