CAREY Park put in a commanding performance against Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in front of a bumper crowd to win the South West Football League grand final by 28 points at Hands Oval on Sunday.
Lions drew first blood with a soccered goal by forward Kim Williams and looked to have the early jump on the Panthers.
They kicked accurately to have six straight goals on the board at quarter time to lead by 12 points.
But Carey Park lifted in the second and their running players were able to break through the lines and they hit the lead late in the quarter.
They went in at the half time break 16 points ahead of last year’s premiers.
By three quarter time the match was just about sewn up and Carey Park survived a small Lions fight back to win their second premiership in three years.
Final scores were 18. 12 (120) to 14.8 (92).
The Pike medalist for best on ground was awarded to this year’s Hayward medal winner Carey Park’s Justin Wilson.
The HBL club did taste success on the day, with its reserves team holding on to win by four points 8. 11(59) to 8. 7 (55).
Best on ground went to Lions Ben Piggott.
Carey Park won a thriller in the colts by one point over Eaton Boomers 11. 7 (73) to 10. 12 (72).
