Solyom set for Stawell return

7/10/2008 8:35:00 AM
Former Stawell Warriors coach Jamie Solyom will return to the club in 2009.

It was confirmed on Monday that Solyom would return to the Warriors as a senior player and also as an assistant to new under 14 coach Lucas Fudge.

President Shane Rathgeber said Solyom simply wanted to return as a player with no expectations on his shoulders.

``We went away with Soly on our golf weekend and he just wants to have a crack at these blokes up in Horsham.''

Solyom has not played for the Warriors since standing down as coach in 2005. Solyom then headed to St Arnaud in the North Central FL as assistant coach in 2006 before signing on as coach for seasons 2007 and 2008.

The big forward booted 43 goals in his debut season with the club before kicking 87 in 2006 and then 55 this year. Solyom booted 62 goals with Stawell in 2004, but managed just 21 in his last season with Stawell.

St Arnaud failed to finish any better than fourth during Solyom's time with the club.
