Athletes reach new heights with fresh challenge

24 Nov, 2009 12:00 AM
PROMISING Border athletes Sarah Maclure and Jacqui Star have picked up medals in the pole vault at the NSW All Schools Athletics Championships in Sydney.

Sarah came second in the 17 years girls, while Jacqui placed third in the 16 years.

It was their first major competition in pole vault after the girls crossed over from high jump in pursuit of a fresh challenge.

They have consistently finished in the top six in their respective age groups at state championships each year.

Sarah and Jacqui, who compete for the Wodonga Athletic Club, will now turn their attention to the Victorian Country Championships in January.

Meanwhile, Samantha Little ran personal bests in the 200m and 400m for 13 years at the all schools championships.

She finished fifth in the 400m final with a time of 1.02.11 and qualified to represent NSW at the nationals in Hobart from December 4 to 7.

Samantha will join Holly Plunkett (15 girls high jump) and Tom Gibney (800m) in the NSW team at the championships.

Sarah was also selected to represent NSW for pole vault but is unable to make the trip.
