Captain: Tom Packer
Coach: Bret Gilbee
Homeground: Bethanga Recreation Reserve
Last year: Sixth
Hello: Ryan Gilbert (year off), Sam Packer (year off), Chris Rogers (Howlong).
Goodbye: Nil.
Class act: Top-order batsman Jason Gilbert is a natural young sportsman who had a slow start to last season but found some runs towards the end. Has trained well and looks capable of returning to the sort of form that saw him selected in Victorian junior teams.
Last word: A team with only two players over 25. Hasn’t lost anyone from last season and made some handy gains. Could be the big improver.
Captain: Joshua Stewart
Coach: Michael Connors
Homeground: Baranduda Recreational Reserve
Last year: Runner-up
Hello: Josh Stewart (Albury Titans), Peter Collins (East Albury), James McNamara (Barnawartha-Chiltern), James Brombal (Qld), Joel Parsons (Sydney).
Goodbye: Nil.
Class act: Rohan Pearce is a 16-year-old bowling all-rounder who has attracted attention from the North East Knights. An exciting talent, he’ll take the new ball and give plenty of cheek.
Last word: The Rangers are shaping as one of the teams to beat with some handy recruits including East Albury paceman Peter Collins. Have no significant losses and will be around the mark.
Captain: Gordon Anderson
Coach: Steve Williamson
Homeground: Barnawartha Recreation Reserve
Last year: Fifth
Hello: Kade Wilson (Howlong), Wayne Anderson (retirement).
Goodbye: Craig Scammell (retired), Mark Doolan (Perth).
Class act: Ben Jones shows plenty of promise as a left arm opening bowler and can also bat while skipper Gordon Anderson looms as a key with the willow.
Last word: Began last season in a blaze of glory on the back of Mark Doolan’s sensational form. When he departed the Miners’ form tapered. Around the fringes of finals action.
Captain: Gerard Midson
Coach: Gerard Midson
Homeground: Dederang
Last year: Third
Hello: Mark Purtell (Yackandandah), David Hanson (year off).
Goodbye: Andrew Hill (North Albury), Josh Warren-Marmo (North Albury), Michael Hill (Melbourne), Brad Scheetz (shoulder injury), Brant Duncan (Ballarat), Kane Hynes (Kalgoorie).
Class act: Mark Purtell is a seven-time premiership player with the experience Dederang need. Not getting any younger but a classy all-rounder who will bolster both the batting and bowling attack.
Last word: Dederang has suffered some heavy losses but made some quality acquisitions that should ensure it will be around the mark again this year. Very determined to make amends for last year’s missed chance.
Captain: Troy McCormack
Coach: Troy McCormack
Homeground: Howlong Football Ground
Last year: Eighth
Hello: Allan Chappell (year off), Luke Daly (retirement), Mitch Ryan (Kiewa)
Goodbye: Chris Rogers (Bethanga).
Class act: Paul Watts is a handy contributor with both bat and ball and will need another consistent season if Howlong is to make inroads.
Last word: Should improve with Allan Chappell returning after a season off and Luke Daly coming out of retirement. Talented youngsters Toby Pargeter and Anthony Miles will be given plenty of opportunities to shine.
Captain: Andy Norling
Coach: Andy Norling and Dave Coulston
Homeground: Kiewa Memorial Park
Last year: Seventh
Hello: Andy Norling (Yackandandah), Josh Bartel (year off), Kelvin Bailey (New City).
Goodbye: Nil.
Class act: Ashley Sutherland is regarded as one of the best players in the competition and he will relish not having the captaincy this season.
Last word: Kiewa has got the ability and underachieved last season. Andy Norling will provide significant leadership while Kelvin Bailey is also a massive inclusion if he plays the bulk of the season. Expect improvement.
Captain: Mark Betheras
Coach: Mark Betheras
Homeground: Mt Beauty Reserve
Last year: 10th (Provincial)
Hello: Corey Walters (Melbourne), Chris Derrick.
Goodbye: Tahir Afridi (Old Paradians), Chandana Pushpalal (England).
Class act: Frank Iaria has been Mt Beauty’s “Mr Consistent” with the ball over the years and extra responsibility will fall on his shoulders with star imports Afridi and Pushpalal departing the club.
Last word: Mt Beauty struggled in the Provincial competition but should challenge for a finals berth despite losing its imports. Corey Walters will be handy with both bat and ball.
Captain: Andrew King
Coach: Wayne Thomas
Homeground: Urana Road Oval
Last year: Third
Hello: Cameron Furze (retirement), Marty Hardy (Tasmania), Rhyse Thompson (Tallangatta).
Goodbye: Kelvin Bailey.
Class act: Furze is a proven bowler after a successful stint with St Patrick’s and he is likely to be the key with the new ball for the Phoenix. Sam Nichol and Andrew King are also keys.
Last word: Kelvin Bailey is a massive loss for New City but they have more than compensated with Furze and Hardy coming on board.
How far they go could depend on the improvement out of the likes of Tyson Bradsworth.
