Hopper’s cricket gear stolen from car

25 Nov, 2009 01:00 AM
NORTH Albury cricketer Josh Warren-Marmo’s preparation for this weekend’s NSW zone play-offs has been thrown into disarray after $3500 worth of cricket gear was stolen from his car on Monday.

Warren-Marmo was one of three Border cricketers chosen to represent the Riverina at the play-offs, with selection in the NSW team to compete at the Australian country championships up for grabs if he excelled.

But the 19-year-old faces the prospect of having to buy new gear or borrow some when he makes the journey north tomorrow.

“I left my car in the driveway and was out in the backyard for about 10 minutes and then I came back and the boot was open and all my gear was gone,” he said yesterday.

“I probably had about $3500 worth of gear in there, and with the NSW zone trials on this weekend, it’s really disappointing.”

As well as the frustration of losing his equipment, Warren-Marmo said there was also sentimental belongings in his cricket kit.

“I keep all my premiership medallions in my bag and now they’re gone,” he said.

“There’s also a bat that (former Australian and Queensland batsman) Jimmy Maher gave me while he was up here last year, so it’s pretty disappointing losing them.”

Warren-Marmo, who reported the incident to police, said he wouldn’t ask any questions if his gear was returned and can be contacted on 0429 458 000.
