LAVINGTON all-rounder Dominic Wild hopes to put a season of injury behind him on Sunday when he travels to Seymour as part of the Victorian Country under-21 team to take on the Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Union under-21 team.
Wild, 19, earned selection for Victoria Country after a stand-out game for the North East Knights late last year against Barwon, scoring 83 runs and taking two wickets.
Wild said he wasn’t expecting his selection.
“I wasn’t really expecting it, I’ve had a bit of an on and off season with a few injuries but it’s a big honour,” he said.
“I’m really happy.”
Wild said bad luck with things such as a broken toe and a torn quad had stopped him from playing as many games with Lavington as he would have liked.
“I had a broken toe at the start of the season and then I tore my quad first game back,” he said.
Wild though hopes to repay the faith slectors have showed in him when he comes up against the might of the Victorian metropolitan cricketers.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Wild said.
“Hopefully I can do as well in this game as I did the last time I played for the Knights.”
Wild is the first North East Knights player to be selected for Victoria Country in several years.
