EAST Albury captain Alistair Rose faces an extended break on the sidelines, with his reconstructed right knee requiring further surgery.
Rose, who injured his knee playing football for Walla in 2004, will have an arthroscope in the coming weeks after experiencing discomfort in the knee this season.
In a blow for the Crows, who are sitting second last on the CAW Provincial table, Rose admitted yesterday he probably wouldn’t be back on the field until after Christmas.
“I don’t really know what’s wrong with it, it’s been fine since I had the reconstruction,” he said.
“I’m sure it’s OK but it might just need a bit of a clean-out, and I’ve got an arthroscope in a couple of weeks.
“It’s disappointing to have to miss a few games but hopefully I should be right to come back after Christmas.”
Rose said today’s game against bottom-of-the-table Yackandandah was a “must-win” contest.
“It’s very important for us, it’s pretty much a must-win game,” he said.
In other games, Wodonga will host North Albury in a rematch of last year’s grand final.
The Dogs and Hoppers sit first and second on the ladder, but North Albury will be without star duo David Farrell and Josh Warren-Marmo, who are representing Riverina at this weekend’s NSW zone play-offs.
Tallangatta will be without Ben Dower, who is also at the zone play-offs, but should account for Dederang at Rowen Park.
Belvoir hosts St Patricks, while Lavington takes on Albury.
- After last Saturday’s round of games were called off due to wet weather, CAW chairman Michael Erdeljac said the association would make a decision regarding today’s matches this morning.
“All games are on at this stage, but all cricketers should check the CAW website or listen to 2AY for updates — a decision will be made at 8am on Saturday,” he said yesterday.
“Hopefully all games go ahead but the most important day for wicket preparation is on Thursday, and that’s when all the rain came.”
