NEW City’s chances of staying in Provincial next season soared after it was awarded the points from Saturday’s Cricket Albury-Wodonga clash against Dederang.
After inspecting both scorebooks, CAW chairman Michael Erdeljac said yesterday the pennant committee had ruled in the Phoenix’s favour.
Erdeljac confirmed the umpires had also signed off on the match.
New City and Dederang initially agreed the Phoenix won the match by one run before Dederang claimed it had found an extra no-ball in the scorebook after leaving the Urana Road Oval.
It believed the match should have been a tie.
Albury, New City and Dederang are fighting to avoid relegation with Andrew Creamer’s in the firing line to be dropped to District next year as the Demons are yet to win a game.
Meanwhile, CAW’s Twenty20 semi-finals will be played on Sunday with Tallangatta taking on Lavington at Rowen Park and East Albury hosting North Albury.
The grand final will be played on March 4.
