Albury is in the box seat to claim an upset win against Belvoir when it resumes at 5-80 chasing 120 at Kelly Park.
The rebranded club, formally known as the Titans, was humbled by Tallangatta in the first round of the season but produced an inspired first day against the Eagles last week, rolling the home team for just 119 after Belvoir chose to bat first.
Albury endured a few nervous moments in its innings but is within touching distance of claiming its first win of the season and resigning Belvoir to an 0-2 start to the year.
Belvoir skipper Mick Spiteri, who missed the first week of the match, said the nature of the capitulation last week wasn’t good enough, adding the team’s efforts today would set the tone for the rest of the season.
“The first half-hour will be super important,” he said.
“How we go about the day’s play is, in some respects, more important than the result itself — we need to get some confidence, especially for our younger guys.
“What happens will reveal some character, we need to see who puts their hand up to make a difference for the rest of the year.”
Tallangatta and Lavington, meanwhile, are locked in an even contest at Rowen Park.
The Panthers battled their way to a competitive score of 9-232 last Saturday, and then claimed the wicket of Bushies opener Dave Avery before stumps.
But with Steve Wood and Andrew Lade, Matt Armstrong still to come, Tallangatta should prevail.
In other games, St Patricks is chasing North Albury’s 321 at Xavier Oval, while Wodonga will push for outright honours against East Albury.
