COROWA youngster Kade Wilson has fuelled the fire ahead of today’s big clash against Rutherglen at Ball Park, admitting hate between the arch rivals is as strong as ever.
While Rutherglen’s finals hopes appear over with three games remaining, the Redlegs will attempt to make life as difficult as possible for fourth-placed Corowa, which has fifth-placed Bruck breathing down its neck as it attempts to secure a top-four position.
Despite being only 17, Wilson knows the importance of a victory in the two-day clash.
“We do hate each other,” the batsman said.
“It’s pretty much a must-win for us.
“The side’s going along all right and we are starting to get back into form.
“We’ve been bowling well but the fielding needs to pick up a fair bit.”
Both sides enter the game full of confidence after victories last week.
With Nathan Thomas taking six scalps, the Redlegs successfully defended just 137 at home against Wangaratta Magpies, while opener Nathan Rhodes smashed 78 in the Roos’ five-wicket win away to Myrtleford.
Roos skipper Jarred Lane said there would be no secrets between the sides today.
“We’ve had a good record against them the last few years,” Lane said.
“It’s always good to beat them.
“There’s a good healthy competition there.
“A lot of us play footy together so we know each other pretty well.
“Rutherglen have been going all right so it should be a good game and they’ve got a good bowling attack.”
Corowa won the last meeting between the sides, in round 3, with Lane, Wilson and Shane Norman hitting half-centuries in the 62-run win at Barkly Park.
Elsewhere, Bruck should win at Beechworth, City Colts will have little trouble at home against Wangaratta Magpies, Greta should win at Myrtleford and Yarrawonga-Mulwala should account for Rovers United at Lonsdale Reserve.
