BEECHWORTH all-rounder Nick Dillon says the Wanderers must value their wickets to cause an upset at home against Bruck today.
Beechworth needs 124 runs but has just five wickets in hand.
And Dillon is aware that his team is in danger of coughing up a winnable position for the second straight week if it again bats poorly.
“Hopefully, we can go all right,” Dillon said.
“We just need a bit of support for Brenton Surrey.
“Hopefully, the next couple of batsmen can stick around. With a few partnerships, it’s a gettable target.
“We put ourselves on the back foot but if we work hard early, we are in with a chance. We need to get to drinks no more wickets down.”
Skipper Surrey will resume on 11 but has found partnerships hard to forge, with Colts last week taking the scalps of his brother Kayde, Matt Ryan and Matt Hunt, all for ducks, Mitch Howe (1) and Jaecob Tolley (2).
Brendan Thompson, the other unbeaten batsman, is yet to score.
Beechworth, which is chasing just 139 for victory, is making a habit of producing unpredictable performances.
The Wanderers bowled City Colts out for just 93 at home last round but then capitulated in their innings to be bowled out for 82.
Dillon said his team’s inconsistency was becoming a problem.
“It is frustrating,” he said.
“The bowlers have been doing all they need to do, then we batsmen are letting them down.
“We have got to work a bit hard and have pride in our wickets and be more competitive.”
Elsewhere, Corowa at home has seven wickets in hand to get the 80 runs it needs for victory against Rutherglen.
Roos skipper Jarred Lane will resume on eight with Ryan Gale one, with their team 3-58 after just 15 overs, chasing 138 for victory.
And in other games, ladder leader City Colts are 0-7 in reply to Wang-aratta Magpies’ 122 at the Bill O’Callaghan Oval, Myrtleford is 5-46 in its second innings at home against Greta and Yarrawonga-Mulwala is 4-138 in its first innings after passing Rovers United’s 85 at Lonsdale Reserve.
