SEPTEMBER football could return to Albury for the first time in two years after the Tigers and North Albury were among six clubs to apply to host Ovens and Murray finals this year.
With Lavington Panthers Oval locked in to host the grand final on September 19, Albury and the Hoppers along with Wodonga, Wodonga Raiders, Wangaratta and Wangaratta Rovers are all in the running to host one of the remaining five finals.
They were the only six clubs that tendered applications to the O and M before last Friday’s deadline.
Albury Sportsground missed out on hosting a final for the first time in five years last season while Bunton Park also missed out.
Last year’s finals were held at Norm Minns Oval, J.C. Lowe Oval, John Flower Oval, W.J. Findlay Oval and Birallee Park.
O and M general manager Tom O’Connor said this year’s venues won’t be finalised until the eve of the finals series.
“We need to know the shape of the final five before we make a final decision,” O’Connor said.
“With fifth spot and various other positions still up in the air it might not be until the Saturday of the last home-and-away round that we can finalise the draw.”
The finals will start on August 28.
