Big guns set to return to Hoppers line-up

29 Jul, 2010 01:00 AM
MOYHU is poised to regain the bulk of its scoring power as the Hoppers aim to fire a final warning shot at the competition’s powerhouses before finals.

Former Corowa forward Reece Bilney is likely to return from his sick bed while leading goalkicker Shane Moore (groin) will be monitored during the week.

“Reece should be right but Shane’s probably just 50-50 at this stage,” Moyhu coach John McNamara said.

Their inclusions would be timely for the team that kicked just three goals after quarter-time against Tarrawingee last week.

“I thought we were pretty good for the first half but Tarrawingee just clicked into another gear after that,” McNamara said.

“Our intensity certainly dropped a bit after a good start but it was mostly due to their pressure and good football.

“They have six or seven blokes who can run through the midfield and we just can’t match them in that department.”

Moyhu will finish the season with clashes against Goorambat and Greta, so Saturday’s clash gives the Hoppers a chance to defeat one of the competition’s “big five” teams.

“We’ve got one more opportunity to beat one of the top teams so we’re looking forward to it,” McNamara said.

“I think it’s pretty clear there is a bit of a gap between the top five and the rest so it would be good to perform well against one of those heading into finals.”

Greta will have similar goals when the Blues travel to Milawa to face the defending premiers.

Bonnie Doon cannot afford to slip up to North Wangaratta if the Dogs want to make their Ovens and King finals debut.

Glenrowan’s finals hopes will almost certainly be dashed if it can’t upset Benalla All Blacks.

King Valley should be able to string three wins together for the first time in a long time when the Roos host Goorambat.

Tarrawingee and Bright will crush Swanpool and Tatong respectively.
