YARRAWONGA coach Craig Ednie believes the Pigeons need to get their season back on track — and in a hurry.
After successive losses to fellow top three-teams Albury and Wodonga, Ednie is desperate to bounce back against North Albury at Bunton Park today.
“We might have got ahead of ourselves last week, I’m not sure,” Ednie said.
“Hopefully you’ll see a much-improved effort against North Albury.”
Yarrawonga is almost certain to play Wodonga in the qualifying final and the Pigeons will need more run from the likes of second-tier players Nic O’Bryan, John Lucas and Nick Tassell to play a serious role in September.
Ednie and Michael Stevens have carried the bulk of the workload and Xavier Leslie, Matt Wollington and Scott Oswald will also be looking to tune up with big performances.
North Albury has benefited from its youth all season and coach Travis Hodgson has responded to back-to-back losses by introducing several more rookies in Marshall Lacey, Charley Graeber and Jake Curran.
It won’t be enough to bring down Yarrawonga, but should arrest the slide in discipline that was obvious in last weekend’s loss to Wangaratta Rovers.
Justin McCabe’s performance will be crucial, with Ednie desperate for him to get through the clash unscathed to provide support for Josh Hammond in the ruck during the finals.
