Girls clinic may lead to own competition

24 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
THE Ovens and Murray Football-Netball League says it hopes to have a youth girls football competition this year.

AFL Victoria’s Youth Girls Academy will visit the Border and if well attended, the O and M will look at starting its first girls-only football league.

O and M operations manager Aaron McGlynn said Wodonga Football Club, Wodonga Raiders Junior Football Club and North Albury had shown interest in the concept.

“The clinic should give us a good indication of the interest out there,” McGlynn said yesterday.

“We are hoping for about 50 and we’ve got about 20 pre-registrations already.”

Over 60 of Victoria’s best under-18 female players, and 13 field umpires, will visit the Border for on February 4-5.

Players and umpires will be at Albury Sportsground for training on the Saturday and then run free clinics at Wodonga Senior Secondary College on the Sunday.

The weekend will close with an intra-squad exhibition match.
