LOCKHART will give key defender Brett Hewitt time to prove his fitness before being assigned one of the toughest jobs in the Hume league.
Hewitt, under an injury cloud with a back complaint, is one of two Demons in line to man Jindera forward Mark Hilton.
Nowra traveller Matt Polman is Lockhart coach Nathan McPherson’s other option for the job in Saturday’s clash between the two form sides of the competition.
Neither Lockhart or Jindera have lost a game since round 3 and McPherson wants to get the Hilton match-up right as he strives for a ninth-consecutive win.
“At this stage we’ve got a couple of injury clouds so we’ll wait and see how training pans out before we decide,” McPherson said yesterday.
“At this stage Polman looks like getting first crack.”
After losing its first two matches of the season, Lockhart is now just one game away out of the top two.
However, McPherson said this week against the Bulldogs could determine if the Demons are a threat or just a pretender.
“We haven’t played one of the top three since Osborne beat us in round 1, so we’ve been looking forward to the game,” McPherson said yesterday.
“We’re nearly at full strength so with a bit of luck we should be able to give Jindera a bit of a shake.”
Jindera coach Robbie Murray did not expect to make any changes to the team that defeated Murray Magpies by 70 points last week.
Elsewhere, Rand-Walbundrie should have no trouble giving ruckman Adrian Habermann a 200th game to remember against Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock.
Haber mann, 28, started his senior career with Walbundrie in 1998 and won the club’s best and fairest in 2000.
Brock-Burrum returned to the winner’s list last week with a convincing performance against Henty, who will find Walla tough to beat this weekend, despite a home ground advantage.
