COROWA-Rutherglen goalsneak Nathan Reynoldson will miss the Ovens and Murray season after signing with AFL Cairns club North Cairns.
Reynoldson, who finished third in the Roos’ goalkicking last season with 27 majors, has taken six months leave from his position with NSW Fisheries and will return to the Border in October.
His departure will stretch Peter Tossol’s options even further with goalkicking midfielders Sam Carpenter and Robbie Ferraro moving on and Richard Ambrose yet to commit to another season at John Foord Oval.
“I’m having a bit of a holiday from work and will have a few kicks with North Cairns,” Reynoldson said yesterday.
“It’s a good opportunity to have a look around up there.”
Reynoldson will play alongside good friend and former Corowa-Rutherglen player Wes Lord at North Cairns.
Only Nathan Thomas and David Clark kicked more goals than the diminutive forward-pocket last season and Tossol will be looking for youngsters Mitchell Potts and Heath Northey among others to step up and fill the breach.
Reynoldson’s best haul last season was six against Albury at the Albury Sportsground in round 8.
He previously spent time with Narrandera and Mansfield.
Meanwhile, Wodonga will launch its preseason against Rumbalara in the Barooga night series at Barooga tonight.
