JOHN Walker has an inkling he’ll play forward this season given the structures coach Jarrod Twitt is putting into place at training.
But the versatile Shepparton Bears recruit is prepared for anything after the way he was thrown around in the Goulburn Valley last season.
“We won our first seven games of the season, but only won two after that and we missed the finals by a game,” Walker, 21, said yesterday.
“I ended up playing everywhere from a wing to full-forward to ruck to centre half-back.
“It was a bit unsettling, but didn’t worry me too much.
“‘Twitty&rsqu o; seems to see me as a forward and I’m looking forward to it.
“It’s a good group.”
Walker, pictured, started training only a fortnight ago after recovering from ankle problems, but is confident of playing in most of the pre-season series at Barooga.
“I carried the injury for the last four or five games last year and have really missed the entire pre-season,” he said.
“It’s come along well though and it’s good to be training with the boys.”
Walker, who stands at 194cm, has played the bulk of his career at Picola United and looks set to be used as a roaming forward with Guy Telford taking over as the major spearhead deep inside 50m.
