 Ohlin cops tough penalty

Ohlin cops tough penalty

WODONGA ruckman Brent Ohlin has been dropped for today’s crucial Ovens and Murray match against Albury for disciplinary reasons.

After being a surprise omission from the selected line-up, coach Jarrod Twitt confirmed yesterday the Bulldogs’ leadership had reacted to Ohlin missing a training session at Monument Hill last weekend.

It comes only a month after star full-forward Darren Bradshaw was axed for failing to attend two compulsory training sessions.

“Brent missed a session and has copped the punishment on the chin,” Twitt said.

“He’s been up front about it.

“Rules have been put into place and it sends a clear message that everyone is treated the same way.

“I’m sure he will go out and play well.”

Ohlin, who is a member of Wodonga’s leadership group, was among the Bulldogs’ best players in their last match against Myrtleford and his absence will leave Sam Maher and Guy Telford to take on Albury’s Cal McClay and Matt Fowler in the ruck.

Twitt said Ohlin and star midfielder Matt Shir would be missed against the Tigers, but claimed the Bulldogs were prepared to make the tough decisions.

“We would like to have them both playing, but Brent didn’t follow the rules and Shirry wasn’t quite right to play,” he said.

“It usually works out if you make the tough calls even if it’s hard at the time.”

Albury took a similar hard stance for its round 1 clash against Wangaratta when it dropped Tom Gleeson and Trent Castles on the eve of the match for failing to turn up for a Saturday morning training session.
