TAC Cup: Bushies face toughest task

30 Jul, 2010 01:00 AM
THE Murray Bushrangers face the toughest assignment in the TAC Cup when they do battle with ladder-leader Northern Knights at Preston tomorrow.

With the Knights losing only one match this season, Darren Ogier’s line-up will need to be at its best after turning in some inconsistent form in recent weeks.

Ogier isn’t shying away from the task at hand.

“We had enough opportunity against the Dragons and were in a position to win the game last week, but unfortunately we couldn’t get the job done on the day,” Ogier said yesterday.

“Our third quarter let us down and we must rectify this immediately.

“Northern are a big, highly skilled, hard-working outfit who move the ball exceptionally well and we are going to have to place them under pressure and be in a position to have an impact at each and every contest to give ourselves any chance of being competitive.

“This is an enormous opportunity and challenge for each of our boys to play against the best and I look forward to seeing if we can raise the bar to push them every inch of the way.”

The Bushrangers have made four changes with Tim Segrave playing VFL football with Geelong, Dom Star-Hossack being omitted, Jamie Elliott out through injury and Sam Myors having the flu.

They have been replaced by Jake Reeves, Declan Stewart, Bodhi Butts and Tom Yensch.

Mulwala’s Sean Johns was the pick of the Bushrangers last week and was supported well by Shaun Atley, Anthony Miles, Segrave, Patrick Weardon and Sam Schulz, who was playing his first game since contracting pneumonia earlier in the year.

The Bushrangers are sitting in sixth spot on the ladder, a win clear of seventh-placed Calder, and take on the Cannons and Gippsland in the final two rounds.

The Knights will be fresh after last weekend’s bye.
