Boomers FC’s Grace Rowland and Myrtleford’s Brianne Buckingham have both made state teams — Rowland the NSW Country side and Buckingham the Victorian outfit.
But the pair, who are usually teammates for the AWFA and Riverina sides, won’t be playing each other, with NSW Country in Group A and the sole Victorian outfit in Group B.
It is the third time midfielder Rowland has made the NSW Country squad.
The 15-year-old, who scored the only goal in Boomers FC’s senior women’s grand final win against St Patrick’s last season, said her side would be hard to beat.
“I think we’ll have a good chance,” the Trinity College student said.
“The competition is always really hard up there.
“It just depends how we play.
“We’ve got a lot stronger than last year.”
Rowland is enjoying another outstanding season for the ladder-leading Boomers, pushing forward to score crucial goals, while Buckingham, 15, has been a star for the Savoys, who are second on the table.
The five-day tournament starts Monday.
