PETERO Civoniceva’s theory that it’s best to back up quickly from a State of Origin clash will be put to the test tonight when the curtain comes down on Melbourne’s biggest week of rugby league.
The big forward is one of five Broncos stars who will play key roles in the table-topping clash with the Storm at Olympic Park.
Brisbane’s sixth Origin hero, centre Brent Tate, remains in doubt with a knee injury.
The Storm also has three Origin players, Queensland forwards Cameron Smith and Dallas Johnson and Blues centre Matt King, backing up from Wednesday night’s cliff-hanger which the Maroons won 16-14.
The Storm is hopeful its home crowd will top 12,000 for the first time in several years, with all corporate tickets sold out and only a handful of reserved seats still available.
“I’m actually looking forward to this one, it’s going to be a great challenge for the team,” Civoniceva said.
“Last time we came down we were beaten pretty convincingly and the Storm has made Olympic Park a bit of a graveyard for travelling teams so it’s certainly going to be very tough for us.
“It’s probably better to play 48 hours after the Origin rather having to play on Sunday when the soreness has had time to set in.
“And mentally and physically I think it’s quite hard to try to get yourself up to play again a few days later.
“Having such a short turnaround, the soreness hasn’t set in too much and we’ll go out there and hopefully get the job done.”
Tate — who scored Queensland’s second try in the Origin clash — trained with Brisbane last night.
But the Broncos will wait until today before deciding whether he will be fit to play.
