CRICKET legends Rodney Hogg, Greg Matthews and Terry Alderman have been named in a masters cricket team to tour Gippsland this month.
Hogg and former Australian test player Colin Miller were in the Latrobe Valley last week to launch the tour.
The team includes former Australian test and one day cricketers from various eras. Greg Blewett, Damien Fleming, Michael De Venuto and Wayne Holdsworth have also been named as have state players Sean Clingeleffer (Tasmania), Andrew Downton (NSW/Tasmania), Peter Anderson (Queensland) and Ben Johnson (South Australia).
While on tour from 16-22 October, the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) masters team will play against Gippsland invitational sides, hold clinics for young players, visit hospitals and community support programs and look for exceptional young talent through an ACA masters scholarship program.
``The tour program has been developed by current players who are members of the ACA and will bring an exciting format to town with legends of the game providing a unique experience for all cricket and sporting fans,'' ACA marketing manager Bill Leane said.
``The tour has been primarily funded by the current players in an unprecedented show of commitment toward developing community spirit and the game in regional Australia.''
The masters team will arrive in the Latrobe Valley on Friday 17 October and attend a business breakfast before conducting clinics at Morwell Recreation Reserve from 9.30am-10.30am, Burrage Reserve Newborough 10am-11.15am and Traralgon Recreation Reserve 1pm-1.50pm and 2pm-2.50pm.
The clinics are free for all primary school children.
A representative side of local cricketers will take on the masters in a match at Traralgon Recreation Reserve at 5pm prior to a dinner hosted by the Traralgon and District Cricket Association.
The game will be played as a Twenty five/25 format. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 16 are free.
On Saturday 18 October the masters team will be involved in activities with the Central Gippsland Cricket Association and attend a sportsman's night at 7pm.
