JIM Grills has completed successive victories in the senior Holbrook sportsperson of the year award after more excellent performances across three sports, polocrosse, football and cricket.
A former junior winner, Grills again represented NSW at under-21 level last year in polocrosse at the national championships in Queensland.
He came away with best horse and rider honours and has again been selected in the state team this year.
Grills also excelled on the football field for Holbrook as he broke into the senior team at the age of only 16.
He was presented with the Brookers’ rising star award and earned a nomination for the same honour in the Hume league.
Grills kicked two goals in a Brookers’ second half resurgence in the grand final before going down to Jindera.
On the cricket field, Grills played for Holbrook Colts and was man of the match in their one-day championship success.
He earned the best male sporting honours at Xavier High School after excelling in cricket, touch football and rugby.
The Border Mail sponsors the Holbrook senior sportsperson of the year award which was presented at Australia Day celebrations yesterday.
The junior award was again taken out by Holbrook Public School’s Alyce Parker who continues to excel in swimming and athletics.
She dominated her age group at school and zone level in swimming and competed at state level.
Parker also reached state level in athletics and finished sixth in the 11 years cross country.
Last weekend she won two gold medals at the Victorian Country Swimming Championships at Bendigo.
St Patrick’s student Brandy Galvin was presented with the encouragement award, winning a high jump silver medal at the PSSA carnival in Sydney.
The team award went to the Holbrook under-16 cricket team which went through the season undefeated to win the grand final.
