KRAMBACH Race Club will 'have to look' at the possibility of conducting its three meetings at the newly licensed Tuncurry track.
Race club president Alan Bakewell said his committee has spoken to representatives from the Tuncurry-Forster Jockey Club as recently as a fortnight ago on the matter. This was before the Tuncurry-Forster club was given the go ahead to race by new NSW Racing Minister Kevin Greene.
The Krambach club has been linked with the Forster-Tuncurry area in the past and at one stage there was talk of an amalgamation between the two entities.
Currently Krambach races at Taree-Wingham's Bushland Drive complex.
Mr Bakewell said it is far too early to make a decision on whether the club would move fulltime to Tuncurry.
He understands the Tuncurry-Forster club has to do much work yet to bring facilities up to standard to run the first meeting scheduled for Saturday January 17. Even more work on infrastructure would be required for the club to be able to conduct a TAB meeting such as the Krambach Cup. Tuncurry-Forster president Gary McQuillan told the Times last week that the one meeting will be enough for the club for the foreseeable future.
"We'll just have to see what happens out there,'' Mr Bakewell said.
Mr Bakewell said given that country clubs have lost race dates in recent years he believes the Taree-Wingham club would obviously prefer Krambach stays at Bushland Drive.
"They wouldn't want to lose the revenue,'' he said.
Mr Bakewell revealed that around 10 years ago his club looked at transferring a cup meeting to the then unlicensed Tuncurry track after some concerns had been raised about the racing surface at Bushland Drive after what had been a wet season.
"We could have done it but we were eventually knocked back by the powers that be in Sydney,'' he added.
Meanwhile the Krambach Cup will be run on Friday October 17 for the first time since 2006. Last year's meeting was a casualty of the Equine Influenza crisis.
