Division 1:
Fina, Germon v Holstein. Not a particularly good start for Jean and Barbara losing the opening set 6/1 to Bev and Kim; but a better result in the second set when Jean and Gai won the set 6/2 against Bev and Monica. The rallies were long, continuous returning, remarkable at times, with a lot of work to be done to win a point.
The third set, a tiebreak, was won by Barbara and Gai to level at 13 games to both teams. Germons won sets 4 and 5 to put them 5 games ahead of Holsteins. This proved to be too hard a task, however Holstein’s won the final set 6/2 to fall one game short 26/27, sets 3 all.
Thank you to the ladies who umpired allowing the players to rest in the shade between sets on such a warm day.
Well done Bev, Kim and Monica who will play Jane, Julie and Fay in tomorrow’s grand final.
Division 2:
Final, Green v Waters. Irene Waters had a great match playing her best tennis, however Bell, Mae and Kalen must have played better as they finished with a 5 sets 35 win to 1 set 26. The first three sets were tiebreakers, 2 to Green and one to Waters, before the Green machine surged on to take the final three sets.
Irene and Leanne were very convincing in the opening set but could not maintain their dominance, serving was generally good by all six players, aces to Sue and Irene. Bell had her sideline working, Mae and Kalen played the final set although their win was assured being 7 games up. Kalen had a fall literally throwing herself into the return.
Thank you to the umpires. Greens will now play Leighanne, Mercia and Elona in the grand final.
Tennis, don’t you just love it!
